Slack to become AI hub as Salesforce tackles agentic fragmentation

Salesforce has unveiled a major strategic pivot for its messaging platform Slack, positioning it as the central "command centre" for a new era of corporate artificial intelligence.

The software giant announced that Slack will serve as the "System of Engagement" for its Agentic Enterprise platform. At the heart of this shift is an upgraded Slackbot, reimagined as an employee superagent designed to coordinate a digital workforce of Agentforce teams, third-party AI agents, and enterprise data. The move aims to solve a growing headache for global businesses known as "agentic fragmentation," a scenario where multiple AI systems create complexity instead of impact, driving the need for unified orchestration.

The announcement carries particular weight in the Middle East. Under the banners of We the UAE 2031 and the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, regional AI adoption has consistently outpaced global benchmarks. However, experts suggest the region has reached a critical inflection point where the focus is no longer on simply adopting AI, but on operationalising it at scale. Data readiness and integration remain the primary bottlenecks, with disconnected systems often preventing organisations from unlocking the full value of their digital investments.

"Across the UAE, organizations are moving quickly on AI, but many are still constrained by fragmented data and disconnected systems," said Mohammed Alkhotani , Senior Vice President and General Manager, Salesforce Middle East and Africa.

Under the new architecture , Salesforce has defined two distinct roles for its software. Slack acts as the System of Engagement—the interface where humans and agents interact—while Agentforce operates as the System of Agency, powering AI execution across the enterprise.

To support this, Salesforce is rolling out a suite of new capabilities including automated meeting transcription, contextual desktop integration, and reusable AI skills that standardise workflows. These tools are supported by expanded connectivity across more than 6,000 enterprise applications, designed to embed AI directly into day-to-day operations.

The scale of the platform remains significant, with Slack currently hosting 33 million monthly active users who exchange more than 6 billion messages every week. According to Salesforce’s internal data, the shift toward integrated AI is already yielding results, with some organisations reporting savings of up to 90 minutes per employee per day.

Within Salesforce itself, teams are reportedly saving up to 20 hours per week, generating over $6.4 million in productivity value. For UAE sectors ranging from real estate to financial services, the ability to unify data and ensure trust within existing workflows is expected to define long-term digital advantage.
